Pedophilia fears on camera phones

High-tech camera phones could be the new tool of trade for child molesters, the head of the Victorian police sexual crime squad said yesterday, according to The Age.

"Internet pedophiles and those dealing in child pornography were "the most computer-literate of criminal groups".

"Many of them are single and are financially well off so they can afford all the gadgetry that goes with the technology," Senior Sergeant O'Connor said.

File sharing or peer-to-peer networking was creating a problem because it allowed pedophiles to communicate directly with each other. They were also more difficult to track.

Camera phones posed a similar threat, Senior Sergeant O'Connor said.

"God knows where video phones are going to take us. If you look at the technology you still have to use the telephone network . . . but it's one user sending it straight to the other," he said. "You're cutting out the middleman."
