J-Phone to launch cell phones with TV tuner

Japanese mobile phone operator, J-Phone, a subsidiary of Britain's Vodafone Group, said it is hoping to launch cellphones featuring a built-in television tuner as early as December. The new service would be the first of its kind in Japan.

J-Phone was the world's first company to offer mobile phones with built-in digital cameras, which can transmit images directly using the company's 'sha-mail' service. The function has proved so popular that virtually every new handset model for the Japanese market now includes a camera. [Yahoo Biz] via [Mobile Media Japan].
