Virtual Protest Moblog

A consumer advocate group called CASPIAN (Consumers Against Supermarket Privacy Invasion and Numbering) approached Textamerica.com with the idea to use moblogs for virtual protests (on any topic).

They're looking for people to photograph symbolic protests in front of landmarks (or wherever) around the globe. They know of one group that is going to hold up the letters "S T O P R F I D" at Stonehenge.

The protest moblog is called stopRFID and an RFID protest is scheduled in the Chicago area 9/15. Something to watch out for.

RFID stands for radio frequency Identification. It's a tracking chip which retailers plan to embed in their product packaging, so that they can instantly track their goods from factory floors all the way to retailers' warehouses.

Experts estimate industry could save billions of dollars each year in inventory and logistical costs with RFID. But to privacy advocates, RFID is a dangerous and massive invasion of privacy. For more on issues surround RFID, read Wired article.
