MMS postcards sent by the post office

postcard.gif Customers of T-Mobile Netherlands can have their digital vacation pictures from 30 different countries be delivered as personal vacation cards. On one side the photograph will be printed and on the other side there will be the address and the personal message of the sender, reports Cellular News.

How does it work?

"After downloading (through the mobile phone with t-zones) and instalment of the software on the mobile phone, T-Mobile Customers can use MMS post. The picture can be provided with a personal message and correspondence address, which can than be sent as an MMS message. After that T-Mobile takes care of the posting of the personal vacation card and the rest is done by the post office".

02 Germany, the German affiliate of British telecom operator 02, was the first to announce a similar service last April, allowing subscribers to send MMS postcards from their cell phones (picture+text) to the Post Office, who then prints them out as postcards and delivers them to the recipient.

Is it a good idea? I still think it sort of defeats the purpose of the immediacy of MMS and the whole point of picturephones...
