<title>New iPhone Apps Help Drivers Beat Speed Traps</title>
<link>http://www.textually.org/textually/archives/2008/11/021827.htm</link>
<description>

NMobile and Trapster are two mobile applications that provide up-to-date, detailed maps of speed-enforcement zones with live police traps, speed cameras or red-light cameras. After launching, each application pulls up a map pinpointing the locations of speed traps within driving distance. An audio alert will sound as vehicles approach an area tagged as harboring a speed trap.

Both applications rely on the wisdom of the crowds for their data.

<title>Verizon staff did not listen to Obama voicemails</title>
<link>http://www.textually.org/textually/archives/2008/11/021825.htm</link>
<description>According to Money am, the contents of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama&apos;s voicemail messages and emails were not breached by the Verizon employees who gained unauthorized access to his cellphone account, an Obama aide said on Thursday.

Verizon Wireless said some employees had viewed a personal cell phone account held by Obama that is now inactive. The company, which apologized for the incident, said the device in question was a simple voice phone, not a Blackberry or other device designed for e-mail or other data services.

&apos;We were notified yesterday that employees had accessed the records of an old cell phone no longer in use,&apos; the Obama aide said. &apos;No voice or emails were listened to or read.&apos;

<title>Verizon employees had unauthorized access to Obama&apos;s phone </title>
<link>http://www.textually.org/textually/archives/2008/11/021824.htm</link>
<description> According to MobileTopSoft, several US Verizon employees were put on immediate leave after the discovery that they had unauthorized access to a personal cellphone account of President-elect Barack Obama.

Verizon Wireless President and Chief Executive Lowell McAdam apologized to Obama in a statement.

&quot;All employees who have accessed the account – whether authorized or not – have been put on immediate leave, with pay. As the circumstances of each individual employee’s access to the account are determined, the company will take appropriate actions. Employees with legitimate business needs for access will be returned to their positions, while employees who have accessed the account improperly and without legitimate business justification will face appropriate disciplinary action,&quot; said McAdam.

According to the WSJ, Verizon said it discovered the unauthorized account access this week and said it related to an account that has been inactive &quot;for several months.&quot; The device on the account was a standard feature phone, rather than a smartphone with advanced email and data capabilities.

The company said it has put all employees with access to the account on leave, with pay, as it sorts out which of those workers accessed the account without a justifiable business purpose. Those who did not have a good reason to view the account will be punished, the company said.

According to Money am, Verizon&apos;s staff did not listen to Obama voicemails.

The text messages urges people to pass it on to &quot;name and shame&quot; the couple, who it brands &quot;the cruel vile killers of baby p&quot;.

It also names the street where the 17-month-old was subjected to the months of abuse that eventually killed him. The message urges people to sign a national newspaper&apos;s petition demanding &quot;justice for that poor little boy&quot;.
